Best Generation Glock - Glock released the Gen 4 line of pistols in early 2010, which addressed frame strength issues and introduced minor exterior changes. Almost seven years later, we are introducing the next generation of the Glock line. The Gen 5 differences are fairly simple at first glance, but there are some interesting changes that aren't immediately apparent.
I have been using my Glock 19 Gen 5 since the end of August and have fired about 4000 rounds since then. I have used it for real life static and dynamic cover defense drills, with and without lights attached to the handrail. I also spent time tearing it apart, getting to know the internal changes and issues with changing parts (since Glocks are interesting hobby kits).

Basically, the Glock 19 Gen 5 is just the Glock 19, but there are some interesting and weird changes worth exploring. There are also some caveats that novice buyers should be aware of. I hope to cover most of them here, but keep in mind that these reviews are based on less than two months of use several times a week. I have plenty of time to tell other stories.

Also note that the photos provided in this article do not show the new pistols. But these are photos of people who actively use them several days a week. They tend to get hit a little harder.
The first and best reason to consider this pistol is because it is a Glock 19; it is undoubtedly the best all-around rifle ever made. It is large enough to be a working weapon, has high performance and a large magazine capacity, while being small and light enough for everyday concealed carry.
In addition, the excellent reliability of Glock pistols cannot be ignored. In my experience, I've fired over 100,000 shots with Glock Gen 3 and Gen 4 pistols and the only failures I've ever encountered was inability to replace Glock parts and the Cerakote feature was appreciated. With standard parts, the Glock pistol is almost flawless in performance, even in harsh conditions.

As for the Gen 5, you might want to consider the new Glock 19 for a few good reasons. First, the bolt lock lever is now double. So if you're left-handed, turn the magazine to the right and you'll have a full left handgun. For those who love Glock pistols but don't like finger grooves, the Gen 5 comes with a flat grip strap. Maintenance is not required.
Gen 5 brings several new features to the shooting experience as well as 2 additional features. The Glock 19 has always been a light pistol, easy to handle and consistently outperforms 99.9% of shooters. What's new for this event is the new Gen 5 barrel and flat strap front grip.
After shooting a lot with 3rd and 4th generation Glocks, I noticed the absence of fingerprints. I'm used to the smooth grip that fills my strong hand, and now it feels different. I don't think the difference is that big, but like the fingers, they fit perfectly in my hand and I miss them on this gun. I know a lot of people didn't like them, so a lot of people will be happy with this change.

Glock 19 Gen 4 Online
The new two-shot model is said to double up at long range (4-inch groups at 50 yards, says Glock). I'm still not good enough to get 4" groups at 50 yards, but I noticed that my groups at 25 yards were a lot smaller with the Gen 5 compared to my Gen 4 shooting. Can't say for sure, but I'm guessing it is because of the transparent trunk.
The Gen 5 trigger probably feels a bit better than the Gen 4, but that's subjective and it's hard for me to tell. The Gen 5 trigger mechanism is completely different from the Gen 4, designed as the Glock 43. It has a "New York" trigger spring that uses a polymer spring support and a compression spring (instead of adding a spring that engages the bolt rod). cross.) I tried the 3.5 lb combination and felt no difference in compression or weight at all. So I tried the 2lb connection and got the 4.5lb compression I expect from my shots. It is interesting.
Most of the 9mm ammo I've shot with the pistol was 115 grain, but I've used Federal Premium 147 grain Hydra-Shock JHP, Speer Gold Dot 124 grain +P GDHP, Federal Premium 124 grain HST JHP, Hornady . Special Defense 115g and Hornady Special Duty 135g... all with impeccable performance.
I experienced nothing in ~4000 shots with my Glock 19 Gen 5. The only weird thing I can report is that for the first 1000 shots I felt a bit hesitant as the action entered the first part of the magazine. Instead of the "chicken" sound/feel of the bolt entering the battery, there was at times a "ca-chunk" that felt like a slight wobble of the cartridge chamber. This disappeared after about 1000 shots and did not affect the performance of the gun in any way. Each cartridge in the chamber and shot.

As with all other Glock pistols, the Gen 5 G19's trigger guard changes to a very angled grip and is generally uncomfortable for a strong middle finger when shooting. So I recommend that in EVERY Glock pistol the Dremmel tool is moved to the side and bottom of the trigger guard junction as well as the grip to create a rounded and reduced shape there. That issue aside, the Glock 19 is pretty comfortable overall. There are others who disagree and consider the G19 or any Glock pistol to be serviceable without that little bit of maintenance work. With this modification, I find the Gen 5 Glock 19 very stable. It's impossible without it. I personally would never own a Glock that wasn't repaired in this way. This would certainly be a nice Gen 6 upgrade.
The Glock 19 is not fast and it is very easy for someone to play on the recoil. The magazine release position is good and I only need to adjust my grip a little to get my hands centered for it to engage (as I do on every pistol produced). Even with the minimalistic Glock sliding lock, my grip tends to mess up the grip, and I have found that the gun won't close on the last part of the magazine from time to time. This is not a crime involving a firearm. It's all me.
Despite being compact, the Glock 19 is larger than others in its class. However, it has a beautiful and well-made holster that is easily hidden in many places on the belt, inside the belt or outside. I carry a Glock 19 with my flashlight in the app position every day and have never had a problem typing.
Note, however, that camouflage is largely determined by the holster and its adjustment. Most holsters designed for concealed carry are poorly made and not designed to angle the gun properly to aid concealment. Be careful!

The 15-in-1 Glock 19 is perfect, especially for a compact. It's no mistake that the Glock 19 sets the standard for size and quantity in the pistol world.
The Gen 5 Glock 19 shutter is mostly unmodified, with a black melonite finish treated with an nDLC coating. The result is a dark and, as they say, strong aftertaste. I really like this new finish and the aesthetic it creates. Can't tell if it's strong. However, I can tell you that dropping it on rocks too often during practice will scratch the slide and erase the finish areas, as shown here:

The polymer frame is the same as the Gen 4, except the grip is slightly flared on the sides to mimic magwells (just mimics) and the finger grooves on the front strap are gone. The Gen 5 also has a single pin next to the valve instead of the two pins found on recent generations. Perhaps because of this change, the frame is a little wider and a little longer than the Gen 4. The grip texture is the same as the Gen 4 and can be used unless you have wet or bloody hands (so be sure to stop. Your Glock if it's a weapon to carry).
